The Boomtown Biergarten

Willkommen to The Boomtown Biergarten, commonly known as the Biwabik Park Pavilion. An information booth will allow you to be carded for beer purchases. We will also have information for you about Honktoberfest Activities. We will be selling shirts, raffle tickets, wristbands for the Brewfest, and books of Honk the Moose.

The Boomtown Biergarten will feature Boomtown Brewery beer. Be sure to chat with staff from the Boomtown Brewery. They will be on hand to talk about the brewery process and discuss the different types of beer.

Food will also be in the Biergarten. We will have hot dogs and brats and pretzels, and then some. The Mesabi East Girls basketball team will be helping with food so they can buy new uniforms. Please come out to help support these fine young women.

We will have live polka at the Biergarten. From 11 to 1 pm, we have Setnikar/Pernunovich playing. Shelby Setnikar is the daughter of Biwabik’s late, Donny Setniker. She is a graduate of Biwabik High School. We are excited for her to come to play.

From 1:30 to 4:30 pm, we have Dance Attic from Duluth. They are a duo who plays polkas, waltzes, and some great original music. They also wear lederhosen and cruel while performing!

Bark in the Park – Supporting Mesabi Humane Society in Virginia

Race Rules:. Rain or Shine! Bring chairs to watch. No coolers allowed.

  1. You will need two people to race your dog. One to hold the dog at the starting line and one to catch the dog at the finish line.
  2. You do not run with the dog. Each person stays at the starting line and finish line.
  3. No throwing balls or toys, dogs must run (or not run) on., their own. The person at the finish line can hold a toy or ball.
  4. Please keep all dogs on a leash until it is their time to race.
  5. Race judges will have the final say on the final winners.
  6. Registration is limited to the first 20 dogs in two categories. Purebred Dachshunds and Weenie Wannabees.
    (A weenie wannabee is any dog under 20#.)
  7. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place purebred dachshund.
    Also, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in the Weenie Wannabees.
  8. All proceeds from the Bark in the Park event will go to the Mesabi Humane Society in Virginia.

Bark in the Park Dachshund races will be at 2pm at the gazebo.

Live Book Read and Kinder Plate – Free Family Events!

The Biwabik Area Civic Association and the United Church of Christ are happy to host a LIVE READ of the book, “Honk the Moose” at the church in Biwabik on September 25, 2021, at 1 pm.

Jerry Newton, a local actor, and announcer will read the book while images of the book will be projected on a 10′ screen.

This is a free family fun event at Honktoberfest. We will have “Honk the Moose” T-shirts and copies of the book, Honk the Moose available to buy at this event. Also, Honk the Moose will make an appearance for selfies!
Essentia Health will be sponsoring the Kinder Platz Tent (German for Children’s Place Tent) at Honktoberfest from 11 am to 5 pm. This is a free family fun event. The tent will be located near the playground in the park.

Some of the activities include crafts, such as making a moose antler crown and making a Honk the Moose on a stick. Kids will also be able to make a pretzel necklace. We will have free ax throwing for the kids. (Kid safe ax-throwing – no real axes). Face Painting, if CoVid mandates will allow.

The Biwabik EMS and Fire Department and the Gilbert Police will bring a truck, ambulance, and police car for kids to check out at about 3 pm.

Tickets are $5 each and we only have 500. Drawing at 9pm. Need not be present to win.

Looking for something fun to do at Honktoberfest? We have axe throwing!! We are bringing in US Axe from St Cloud with their mobile unit. It has two lanes for throwing. Their staff will brief you on how to throw correctly.

But, that’s not all! At 4pm we will have a axe throwing tournament! Sign up that day at the information booth!! Also, this is where you will buy your tickets for axe throwing.

There will also be free axe throwing for kids in the Kinder Platz tent. Safe, plastic, no sharp edges.

The Headliner for Honktoberfest is Chainsaw Carving Competition.

We have five carved from the area will each be issues a lot, approximately 6′ high and 24″ in diameter. They will each freestyle and create art from this log. Folks will be able to watch the progress throughout the day. At 4 pm, the pieces will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The Honktoberfest Committee is excited to announce these five carvers who have agreed to compete on September 25, 2021. We will have LeAnn Oman, from Hermantown, who has been all over the United States carving, but she has been to Finland too (The one in Europe, not Minnesota).

Next, we have David Oman, from Hermantown. Yep, he is married to LeAnn. By watching her, he started carving, too.

We Justin Oselund coming. Justin is from the Aurora area, but moved out of the area. He is returning to the Iron Range to carve at Honktoberfest. He is very excited to participate.

Dave Coy from Hoyt Lakes will be participating in his first competition. Come cheer him on!

Lastly, we have Shane Kimball coming from Duluth. His work is beautiful. You have to come see it.

You can see all of these carver’s work on Facebook. Each artist will have pieces for sale, too. You will also be able to vote for your favourite carved in a People Choice Award. That winner will be announced at the auction.
